Original from Macao, pianist May Poon Ho Tung has performed as a soloist and an ensemble musician in concerts throughout North America and Asia. She has appeared in festivals and concert series such as the New York Wind Band Festival, New York’s International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Troy-Hayner Cultural Center Chamber Music Series, Schuster Performing Arts Center Series, Gulangyu Concert Hall Series, Hong Kong Musica dal Cuore Series, Macao International Music Festival, Caritas Macau Teatro Clementina Leitao Ho Brito & Tom Lee Music Macau 15th Anniversary Charity Concert, Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Music Festival, Macao Band Fair and Macau Vocal Festival. Previously, after the successful two-piano performance at Bravo Macao! with her sister Sandra, the Poon Duo has performed a four-hand program in Vancouver, Kyoto, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macau. Her live performance was broadcasted at China Central Radio-Television General Station, Radio Television Hong Kong and Radio Macau.
As an educator, Ms. Poon is named the Steinway Honorary Young Teacher, adjunct faculty at Macao Polytechnic University, the President of the Macau Greater Bay Area Music & Art Association, the Founder and Music Education Director of Dr. Art Education Center. She was one of the faculty members at Macao Conservatory School of Music and also participated as guest musician of the Macau Orchestra. In addition, she was invited as jury member in different competitions including the Music Festival of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs, Hamamatsu PIARA Piano Competition, the Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition, Bangkok International Piano Competition, Asia Aegean International Music Competition, Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition, Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition, Tom Lee Music Culture Competition, 2024 Sound of Music Australia - China International Music & Arts Competition Greater Bay Area Preliminary, Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival, Macao--Asia Pacific Youth Piano Competition and Macao Piano Competition.
Under her guidance and mentorship, her students have achieved excellent results in examinations and competitions. Apart from distinction results of ABRSM/Trinity grades and diploma exams, they also won top prizes from various competitions, including the Lotus Cup Macao Youth Piano Competition, Macao Piano Competition, Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition, "Excellence" International Music Open Competition, "Hsinghai Cup" National Piano Competition, Asia Students Art Festival, "Starlight Cup" National Youth Piano Competition, Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival, Bangkok International Piano Competition, Asia Aegean International Music Competition, Chopin Avenue Piano Competition, G-clef International Music Competition, WPTA Portugal International Piano Competition, ABRSM Piano Competition, Northern Lights Piano Festival, "Beaux Arts" Music Festival.
Ms. Poon received her earliest musical training at the Macao Conservatory. She holds Bachelor and Master degrees at Wright State University (WSU) and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (JSoM) respectively, majoring in piano performance. Her major mentors included Jean-Louis Haguenauer, Edmund Battersby, Dr. Jackson Leung and Dr. Kam Cheok Weng, with additional studies of collaborative piano with Lee Phillips. She also played for Sergei Babayan, Alan Chow, Anne Epperson, Michael Oelbaum, Dmitry Rachmanov, Gustavo Romero, Jerome Rose and Joseph Swensen in masterclasses, among others.
As a scholarship holder of Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, WSU and JSoM, she was also the recipient of the Robert Stofer Music Award, Wanda Coalson Piano Award, Irene Romanowski Award, OFMC Agnes Fowler Scholarship, and Three Arts Scholarship Fund Scholarship.
